Who is Nissie-Grace?

I’m so tempted to say I don’t know because how do I even begin answering such a question. But Nissie-Grace is just a 22-year-old student, writer, a sister and daughter, a Christian, a patriot of Congo, born and raised in London. There are so many layers to who I am. Honestly, I’d need more questions to fully answer that so stay tuned.

Where did your passion for writing come from?

I have always loved reading. Reading for me is almost like an outer body experience because it gives me the opportunity to escape into new worlds. So naturally I’ve always been a lover of words. Before the age of 15 I barely wrote creative pieces.

Initially, I started writing as an outlet after being bullied. I was going through a really tough time in school and opened up to my psychology teacher. She advised that I get a notebook to write my exact thoughts and feelings when I was going through a rough time. I started by just expressing myself and quickly realised how much of a freeing experience it was and I never stopped.

How did you get into blogging and how do you choose what topics to write about?

The reason why I decided to start a blog was because I really can’t deal with trolls. I’m very opinionated but I didn’t want my social media to just be me battling ignorant keyboard warriors. I don’t believe that would be an enjoyable social media experience for myself or the people following me. So, I decided to start writing a blog as a response to idiots online.

In terms of the topics, it’s honestly just about what I’m feeling in the moment. Could be current affairs or it could be whatever is on my mind after a conversation with someone. Sometimes I put up poetry. So yeah, it’s super random.

How did the name for your blog come to be?

My name is Nissie-Grace. Everyone pronounces Nissie incorrectly when they read it and place emphasises on the Ni at the beginning rather than the ie at the end. I had to find a way for people to remember how to say my name and so I started spelling it phonetically as “knee-sea”. My friend and I one day flipped it to seaofknees and I never got rid of it. The word play >>>>

What do you hope people will get from reading your blog?

Well at first, I was just writing to express myself because I didn’t feel comfortable doing it elsewhere. But now, I write firstly to share my opinion. The second reason I write is to share information that maybe someone previously didn’t know. The third reason I write is to start a conversation. I’m not always right and I don’t know everything. But if I can start a conversation, someone else out there can continue it and teach me something new. We get carried away with our busy lives. So, the last reason I write is just to be that break or relief from a stressful day.

As a self-confessed creative human, how would you rate your creative talents?

Erm I have many talents, but I’m not satisfied with any of them. I’m a pretty good writer looool okay I’d say overall, I’d rate my talents a solid 6/10. I could be better.

What are you currently working on?

Oooo see I can’t actually tell you this. But you’ll know very soon. Announcements on my Twitter will probably drop around May/June. Stay tuned.

Which creatives inspire you the most in life?

Well my family primarily. I’m raised in a house of musicians, decorators, multimedia artists, etc. So naturally I’m just surrounded by so many talented and inspiring people who I also have the privilege of being related to.

Other creatives who inspire me – there are many. I pretty much mostly follow people who inspire me in some way on twitter. But the few I can name are @lenagalore, @Kirzart, @SharonnRosee, @eternalankhrah, @dbcxptures, @lincolngore and many MANY more.

What have been your highs and lows of life as a creative?

The highs have literally just been having the freedom to write and seeing people view and engage with my posts. When someone who I don’t know posts or retweets or comments it really touches me. Little ol’ me? Since I became more consistent, my viewing has increased massively.

The lows have been trying to fit in regular blogging when I’m super tired and not always getting support from the people who I know. Yeah that’s tough. But I’ve just kept pushing through.

Which bloggers do you follow and why them?

Honestly at this point I have no clue. I follow so many bloggers that I don’t know who is who. But a few who I can name off the top of my head are: Teekstheblogger, Jennasworldview, Ricapenwrites, KeepingupwithMJ – there are just too many who I love and support.

Where can people find your work?

My work is all on my blog which is I’m also on Wattpad as Seaofknees and I’ve just made a medium page which is also Seaofknees.

Besides being a blogger what else do you do?

What don’t I do? Loool I write poetry, I sing, I paint, I dance/choreograph, I play the violin, I’m decent at piano/keyboard and I’m heavily involved in my church.

In terms of my actual jobs, I spend most of my days teaching, managing social media and in sales.

In terms of my hobbies – when I’m active it’s gym and swimming.

What is your theme for 2020?

I have two: Don’t be an idiot and Just do it.

What is the soundtrack of your life?

This is a hard question lol. Erm… Mary Mary – Can’t Give Up Now.

How would you like to be remembered?

Just as someone who did their very best to make a difference and left an impact everywhere, they went.
